A baby seal's unexpected visit to a luxury hotel car park in North Wales has left guests and staff alike in awe. But here's where it gets controversial... The adorable pup was spotted by hotel guests in the car park of the Quay Hotel and Spa, near Llandudno, this afternoon (Saturday, January 10). While some may be delighted at the sight of this adorable creature, it's important to remember that seal pups are vulnerable and should not be disturbed. The hotel staff, quick to act, called for help from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, who swiftly arrived on the scene. The rescue team meticulously examined the pup, confirming it was healthy before safely transporting it to a specialist facility for further checks and care. The hotel shared the incident on social media, commending the swift actions of the rescuers. The hotel released a statement saying: "We had a very unexpected visitor pop by today. This little seal decided our car park looked like the perfect spot for a rest. While it gave us all a good smile, we made sure to do the right thing and reported it straight away. Huge shout-out to the British Divers Marine Life Rescue who came out quickly, saved the day, and safely took the seal to be checked over and cared for." Earlier this week, the British Divers Marine Life Rescue warned that seal pups would try to take shelter during Storm Goretti. "When the storm hits, any shelter will do. Storm Goretti has brought rough seas and strong winds, and we’re seeing vulnerable young seal pups hauling out in all sorts of unusual places; slipways, roads, gardens, industrial parks and spas across the UK coastlines, including in Suffolk, Cornwall, Wales and the North East. These pups are often exhausted, resting wherever they can to conserve energy and stay safe until conditions improve. Some have needed rehabilitation due to being underweight, and sadly, some have been too badly injured. If you spot a seal pup, the kindest thing you can do is give them space and peace. Keep dogs well away and don't try to move them." Seal pups are sometimes found much further from the coast. In 2014, a lost seal pup named Dumbledore ventured more than 50 miles before it was found in a field in Newton-le-Willows. So, while it's tempting to be delighted at the sight of a baby seal, remember to give these creatures the space and respect they deserve. And this is the part most people miss... The hotel's actions serve as a reminder that, while these animals may seem adorable, they are wild creatures that should be treated with care and caution. So, the next time you see a seal pup, remember to give it space and peace, and let the experts take care of it.
