Unveiling the Truth: 24 Servers Share Their Celebrity Tipping Stories
Are celebrities generous tippers or notorious tightwads? We previously shared stories from service workers who waited on famous people and revealed their tipping habits (https://www.buzzfeed.com/laurengarafano/restaurant-servers-are-revealing-which-celebrities-are-the). The response was overwhelming, with even more readers sharing their own celebrity tip encounters. Here are some of the most shocking and surprising stories:
8. A Demanding Oprah Left No Tip
"I was waiting tables at a well-known Irish pub in Chicago during lunch in the late '90s. It was one of my three jobs and a side business at the time, and I was struggling. The pub was doing very little lunch business, so usually, one person could cover the whole restaurant. One day, Oprah comes in with RFK Jr., and the place is busy. They were not friendly, and Oprah was downright rude and demanding. There was probably some waiting due to understaffing, but service went well, and I generally leave them alone to talk about whatever they were up to. I expected at least a 20% tip for good service and certainly hoped it would be a good day. At the end, Oprah pays but leaves no tip. I was never a fan per se, but now I never fail to tell everyone about her real persona behind the scenes."
Note: The people who shared their stories allegedly speak from personal encounters. Obviously, we weren't there when they happened, so feel free to take them with a grain of salt.
These stories offer a fascinating glimpse into the world of celebrity tipping, but they also raise important questions about the impact of fame and the expectations that come with it. Are celebrities under more pressure to tip well, or do they simply have different standards of generosity? And what does it say about our society that we judge them so harshly based on their tipping habits?
What do you think? Are celebrities generally good tippers, or do they deserve scrutiny for their tipping habits? Share your thoughts in the comments!
