Genesis has unveiled three fresh prototype bikes, including a new Equilibrium all-road model featuring custom Japanese steel. The UK adventure and touring bike specialist Genesis arrived at the IceBike show in Manchester with three prototypes, including a new all-road model that's likely to become the new Genesis Equilibrium. The frameset is intriguing, and the chief engineer was on hand to discuss its key features.
The new Equilibrium project began with a focus on optimizing the bike by using different strength steels in various areas. Instead of a single ultra-stiff front triangle, Genesis combined different materials for different parts, resulting in a more interesting riding experience.
Key areas of focus were the down tube, bottom bracket, and chain stays. To achieve this, Genesis opted for custom-made parts, with the downtube crafted in Japan from a premium heat-treated steel. The chain stays are also heat-treated chromoly, working together to ensure precision and power.
The top tube is made of chromoly, providing a classic smooth feel and compliance of steel. A new carbon fork is attached to the sizeable head tube, featuring a 1 1/4-inch taper to maintain proper proportions. The bike is designed for 40mm tyres and wireless, electronic groupsets, with only the rear brake cable running through the frame.
Regarding pricing and availability, Genesis hasn't disclosed exact figures yet. However, the new Equilibrium is expected to be priced higher than the current model, which starts at £2,699.99 with a mechanical 105 groupset. The other prototypes, including the Fugio gravel bike and the 32-inch-wheeled Vagabond, will also be available in 2026, with budget and higher-spec options.
