And this is the part most people miss... Victor Mesa Jr.'s major league experience was limited to just 38 plate appearances in 2025. During that time, he played in 16 games, hitting .188/.297/.344 with one home run. While his major league numbers might not have jumped off the page, he showed promise in Triple-A, posting a .286/.352/.460 line over 171 plate appearances. This was actually the first time he'd performed at an average level in the minors, which is a crucial detail for understanding his potential.
At just 24 years old, Mesa Jr. is recognized for his solid defensive outfield skills and has shown more power than many expected when he first signed. He's demonstrated this power with 18 homers in 123 games in 2023, followed by 13 homers in only 83 games in 2024, and even added seven more in 42 Triple-A contests last season, plus that one MLB homer.
With an option remaining in the minor leagues, Mesa Jr. is poised to add another option for the Rays' outfield, which has been somewhat pieced together. His high on-base percentage in the Summer League might be a bit misleading, as he has a relatively low walk rate of 8.7%. However, he's been hit by a pitch an incredible 30 times in just 434 career plate appearances! He's a plus runner but still a work in progress on the basepaths, with 35 steals in 48 attempts. He's shown versatility, playing shortstop, second base, and third base in his professional career.
