Since then, 24 astronauts have ventured to the Moon, with 12 of them taking historic steps on its surface during the Apollo program. The original Apollo missions were driven by the Cold War-era goal of demonstrating technological and geopolitical dominance over the Soviet Union. However, after achieving this objective, public interest and funding waned, leading to a decline in further lunar missions.
Artemis, on the other hand, is a testament to humanity's renewed ambition to return to the Moon, this time with a focus on long-term presence, cutting-edge technology, and commercial partnerships.
