In an exciting turn of events, Tommy Smith has signed on with Matt Stone Racing (MSR) to compete in the Super2 series. After making his mark as a former driver in both FIA F3 and Indy NXT, Smith returned to Australia last year, where he participated in several races in the Trans Am series towards the end of the season.
This year marks a significant new chapter in his racing career as he steps into the world of Supercars, following in the footsteps of his uncle, Jack Smith, thanks to this fresh partnership with MSR in the second-tier racing category.
Matt Stone Racing is making a triumphant return to its Super2 origins this season, and Smith is now the second confirmed driver on the roster, joining Ayrton Hodson. Team owner Matt Stone expressed enthusiasm about bringing young talent into the fold, stating, "MSR has a proud history as a development pathway, and we’re excited to be returning to our roots by investing in young, talented drivers like Tommy."
He further praised Smith’s maturity and potential, noting that, "Tommy’s experience has given him a level of maturity beyond his years. We see great potential in him, and Super2 is the ideal environment for him to continue his progression within our program."
Smith himself echoed these sentiments, sharing his excitement about joining MSR for the upcoming 2026 Super2 season. He remarked, "I’m incredibly excited to be joining Matt Stone Racing for the 2026 Super2 season. The team’s history of supporting young drivers speaks for itself, and I’m grateful for the opportunity and the belief Matt and the team have shown in me."
As for future developments, a team statement hinted at more announcements regarding MSR’s Super2 program that are expected soon. This likely includes news about Alice Buckley, who is anticipated to join Super2 with support from MSR.
Both Smith and Buckley had the chance to test their skills for MSR at Queensland Raceway late last year, paving the way for what promises to be an exhilarating season ahead.
